Writing Just For The Hell Of It!

You know, I can dig that sometimes people don’t want to read a long one, but man I had quite a lot of fun writing that post about conspiracy theories! It was a good reminder that sometimes you just have to write what you want for the hell of it, for the sheer fun of just having a rant.

And because I shared it to my Facebook profile, it hit a good 50 views. Not bad. The ego is appeased.

For now…..

What’s weird tough is that two random people somehow downloaded the PDF preview of my novel even though I removed the page because the work needed editing.

How odd.

Conspiracy perhaps? I think Icke and Jones might be on to me…..

They better be careful, because reading this stuff might turn you into a gay commie feminist that can only reproduce like an amoeba.

On a more serious note, I was a bit down in the dumps about writing. It’s a long hard road if you’re looking for success, but I was reminded by the guys at Media Lens that there are always positives to the hard path.

Reading Propaganda Blitz, they talk about being a journalist who, while claiming that they don’t get told what to write, know exactly what they are expected to write for the papers standards. You have a boss, and you internalise the rules.

Whereas, if you’re like me, you don’t have a boss and there is a freedom to that.

Every now and then you need to come around to finding the fun in what you’re doing.

So yeah, it’s hard sometimes to keep that in mind. I haven’t been able to earn any real cash for the past six years – I can’t believe it’s been six years since I moved into the yurt – and I was hoping that I could at least make ends meet.

But there was something in that initial optimism – I was reminded that when I started writing (the books that make up the 3rd and 4th instalment after Red Star Rising) what I wrote was as much for myself as anything, and that was a hell of a lot of fun.

So now I’ve got the plan to finish the latest edits to that first novel, and I have a real desire to write the sequel because I feel that gonna also be a hell of a lot of fun.

The mind is prepped, and soon it’s going to be time to draft.

All I have to do is hold on to the feeling of writing for the hell of it, not for the wealth and fame. After all, what comes out spontaneously is often much more interesting to read.

So no promises – they’re too easy to break – but I’m going to try and loosen up a bit.

Hope you’re all well out there!

DJC

[PS: I’m trying to finish the current short as we speak]
